Spotlighted News on The BBQ Forum
Welcome to the new Web Page
A bit of re-design work was way over due on this web page. I hope you
enjoy the new look of things. I have tried to not only make the web page
look good but I wanted to put in some really functional items that will be good
for all of us. Please watch for the video tour of this web page and the
new features.

Posted by Otis on November 20, 2008 at 16:08:02: Just wondering...sometimes I
am just too lazy to get the smoker out or the weather is bad...
can a brisker or shoulder be cooked with any luck in a roaster on say 250
degrees until normal internal temps are reached? Realize the smoke and BBQ
flavor will be missing (probably reason to quit right there)but if seasoned up
good will they turn out?
thanks, Otis

Why do we need regional representation???? |

Posted by Mack on November 13, 2008 at 17:12:36: Regional representation would
give unfair influence on the BOD to areas that have few if any cookoffs. Texas,
due to its size should have at least 1 members on the BOD never mind they don't
have any KCBS cookoffs. The Northwest should have at least 1 member as they had
2 cookoffs last year. Florida, due to having lots of sun should have some so we
can have our banquet there, at least it is a destination. Ad nauseaum!!!!
Who ask for this, who wants this and why?
Since a majority (not all) of the cookoffs occur in KS, MO, OK, TN, NC, and
AR there appears to be very good representation for their point of view on the
board. Just my .02 cents.

Posted by Fast Eddy on November 11, 2008 at 16:57:48: I guess that I'm missing
something! This talk of relatives serving on the KCBS board is a bad thing? I
spent 6 years there and we had Bob and Margret Nolop on the board together and
you may have heard of a couple by the last name Wells. It seemed to work OK for
the organization at the time. Why is it differant now? Just would like to hear
fom those who oppose this. My feelings are rather neutral on the issue myself
(I'm an independant like Lou Dobs).

Posted by drbbq on November 11, 2008 at 07:57:13: I see this item on the
agenda for the BOD meeting. Can someone from KCBS please confirm what this is
about?
Now a personal comment. There are 10,000 KCBS members. Unless this petition
has 5001 signatures I'd expect it to be considered a minority of the members and
disregarded.

per contest on garnish. In a 40 team contest that would be $1000. thrown in the
trash. I know it is "optional" but if it helps win then it is "required".
If KCBS saunctions 200 contests then this is $200,000 thrown in the trash each
year. In these hard financial times I think KCBS should ban garnish to help the
teams cut expenses.
What do you think?

Posted by monty on November 09, 2008 at 19:49:14: I have been reading the
posts related to KCBS board meetings and I am intrigued by the desire some have
to electronically monitor KCBS board meetings. One of the drawbacks of my own
vocation is that I serve on a lot of boards. I cannot begin to understand why
someone would want to sit at their computers and monitor any of the meetings I
attend. In addition, often times our deliberations should not be part of a
public discussion. Finally, my own feeling is that if you can't trust your board
to carry on the business of the organization then there are deep problems that
no amount of monitoring could ever fix.
What am I missing?
